Police and Wanaka Search and Rescue (SAR) Swift Water Team members were involved in a search for a person in the Clutha River near the Albert Town bridge this afternoon (Monday April 25).
Police received a report of a person in the river around 12:20pm.
Police and Wanaka SAR responded with the assistance of a SAR helicopter and a local jet boat with SAR responders, a police spokesperson said.
“Sadly, the person was located deceased in the river around 2:30pm. The death has been referred to the Coroner,” she said.
“Police would like to thank Wanaka Search and Rescue and the members of the public who assisted with the search.
“Police would also like to share our condolences with the family of the deceased.”
