CLT supports emerging musicians YAMI is an opportunity for emerging musicians – young and old – to learn from industry professionals.

Wānaka non-profit music summit Youth + Adults in the Music Industry (YAMI) has been granted $23,066 for the upcoming summit by Central Lakes Trust (CLT).

The weekend-long summit, which will celebrate 10 years in 2025, features professional musicians, tutors, and speakers from New Zealand and Australia.

Participants are taught how to navigate the music industry with workshop and seminar topics covering performance, DJing, songwriting, beatmaking, royalties and distribution, marketing and management.

CLT’s grant will support sound, lighting and technician hire for the summit, coming up on May 3-4.

CLT said it was happy to provide the grant to help YAMI “support emerging musicians”.

YAMI director Lynne Christie said the summit was “incredibly lucky to have…amazing tutors to share their wealth of knowledge so generously”.

“By giving our upcoming musicians the opportunity to learn and work with industry professionals, we are supporting the music industry to grow and thrive.”

YAMI was one of 17 local charitable organisations to receive a grant from CLT in its most recent funding round.

Other local recipients include the Southern Lakes Sanctuary Trust Programme Grant and Wao Aoteaora, which received operational grants of $270,476 and $173,913 respectively.

Grants supported projects further afield, including an off-road track between Jacks Point and Frankton and a new museum in Cromwell.

Each month CLT provides financial support for charitable initiatives in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes.
