Catchy new signs for local tracksNew council signs may get track users singing along.

New track signs take advantage of people’s musical memories to push messages about keeping left, taking rubbish, and using tracks respectfully.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) will be introducing the signs throughout local tracks - including in Albert Town and on the Millennium Track between the Wanaka Tree and Waterfall Creek - shortly.

The signs, designed by the council, include the phrases “to the left, to the left, when you use the trails please keep to the left” - referencing Beyonce’s song To The Left; “R-E-S-P-E-C-T, use the trails respectfully”, referencing Aretha Franklin’s song Respect; and “Everywhere you go, always take the rubbish with you”, referencing Crowded House’s Always Take the Weather song.

QLDC spokesperson Jack Barlow said it is also a bonus if the signs jog a few musical memories.
