Cardrona Alpine Resort will open for the 2023 winter season tomorrow (Saturday June 17) and staff are working hard behind the scenes to get ready for the influx of skiers and snowboarders.
It is currently expected that only the learner’s slope and the McDougalls Chondola will open tomorrow but Cardrona-Treble Cone general manager Laura Hedley is still excited to kick off the winter season.
“We can't wait to have the lifts spinning again and to welcome everyone back to the maunga for winter 2023,” she said.
On Thursday afternoon the snow at the base building (1800m) was 15cm deep.
Even with the snow cover “not quite as substantial as we would have loved”, Laura said there was still enough for some first season laps, refamiliarisation of the mountain and a celebration of the start of the season.
A DJ will be performing during the opening weekend and the noodle bar, base cafe and Mezz and Vista bars will be open from tomorrow onwards.
Treble Cone is expected to open next Saturday (June 24), and the Snow Farm the following Saturday (July 1).
Coronet Peak will partially open today and the Remarkables will open tomorrow.
