Canadian ski racer Candace Crawford won the Giant Slalom at Coronet Peak yesterday (Monday August 29) to claim her third victory at the Winter Games NZ.
The 28-year-old claimed back to back victories on Saturday (August 27) in Super G and carried her form into yesterday’s race.
“It’s not an easy hill and you need to keep working and pushing and making speed and just having that mentality of putting it all out there,” she said.
“It’s a good step for my confidence and definitely what we’ve been working on. The last two days have been a good step forward.”
Wānaka based Piera Hudson was awarded the Janey Blair trophy for the top-placed New Zealander, finishing in eighth place, 1.49s off the lead.
Top women’s seed Alice Robinson (NZ) recorded a DNF on run one.
Isaiah Nelson (USA) won the men's race with New Zealand’s Willis Feasey the fastest kiwi in sixteenth place 2.88s behind Isaiah.
Contested over two runs with the combined times determining the final placings, the Giant Slalom is a technical event which requires strength and precision.
Winter Games NZ is the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest snow sports event, featuring 16 events across alpine, freeride and park and pipe disciplines between the August 27 and September 11.
