The Luggate Dog Calendar is back for its fourth year and is calling for furry applicants to submit their best shot.

Residents or holiday homeowners who live in Luggate, Queensberry, Tarras and Pukerangi are invited to send through an image of their dog for the chance to feature in the annual canine calendar.

The calendar has already received a handful of applications and welcomes those representing all lifestyles.

It was started by Luggate resident Denise Barr, sparked by her advocacy for rehoming greyhounds.

“I wanted to give the community an opportunity to showcase their fur babies, while fundraising for local community initiatives,” Denise, known by the community now as the calendar girl, said.

This year the entries will be judged by Yvonne and Neill from Queensberry Dogs.

Yvonne and Neill are big advocates for pooches and their wellbeing, having swapped their business desk jobs for an active dog-friendly lifestyle a few years ago. Queensberry Dogs host dogs from all over the Upper Clutha on a daily basis, where they can enjoy the nine-hectare farm and play freely.

Proceeds raised from the calendar will go to the Luggate Community Memorial Hall project. More than $3000 has already been raised from selling the calendar over the previous three years.

This year, one lucky calendar entrant will also receive a free one-hour photo shoot for their dog with Luggate’s Barking Mad Dog company.

Entries for the 2021 calendar can be sent directly to Denise at [email protected] with the subject line ‘Dog Calendar’. Entries close at midnight on October 18.

Requirements for entry are: One image/entry per dog; images must be in landscape orientation; and images must be high enough resolution to be enlarged to 21x30cm size.
