A fire at Relishes Cafe this morning has not caused any damage according to a spokesperson for the restaurant.

The fire started at about 7.30am in the cafe’s flue. A bystander said smoke and fat were spurting onto the roof of the building.

Tourists from St Louis in the United States were among seven people dining in the cafe for breakfast. They said the fire was burning out the chimney and they were calmly evacuated from the building.

No one was injured and the cafe is expected to reopen this morning.

One fire appliance from Wānaka Fire Service attended the incident.
