The Aspiring Gymsports club has had a particularly busy spring, including a recent two-day club competition which attracted 125 gymnasts, both competitive and recreational.

Coach Rae Paterson said the club has attracted full classes and is “bursting at the seams”.

Local gymnasts from the club also competed for the first time at the Southland Trampoline and Tumbling Invitational in Te Anau during the past weekend.

Mount Aspiring College students Hunter Cranfield, Zoe Nicholson, Caoimhe Heath, Kasey Brooks and Nadine Imhof, along with Wanaka and Goldfields Primary students Isla Naismith, Vienna Harley and Charlie Nisbet, each competed in Double Mini Trampoline (DMT) and Tumbling with fantastic results.

“We had kids from five different classes so it was nice to see them all bonding, plus they all did so well,” Rae said. “It was a really positive experience for everyone.”

Hunter, who has just recently returned to gymnastics, achieved a first in DMT and second in Tumbling; Zoe Nicholson achieved second in DMT and fourth in Tumbling; Caoimhe Heath was third in DMT and third in Tumbling; Kasey Brooks was ninth in DMT and sixth in Tumbling; Nadine Imhof was eighth in DMT and 10th in Tumbling; Charlie Nisbet was second in Tumbling; Vienna Harley fourth in DMT and third in Tumbling; and Isla Naismith was fifth in Tumbling and seventh in DMT.

Rae said the club will run a holiday programme in the two weeks before Christmas. Find more information here.
