The body of a man, believed to be a tramper that went missing in Milford Sound on Monday, has been found police said this evening.

The man was located deceased and search and rescue specialists are now working to recover the body and return him to his family.

The tramper was reported missing on Monday (March 28) after failing to return from a climb of the Devils Armchair near Milford Sound.

An alpine cliff rescue team from Wānaka was involved in the search along with police search and rescue and LandSAR personnel.

Police thanked those involved in the search who they said "worked with skill and compassion to find the man in a challenging landscape".
