The body of a young woman was found in the Timaru River, near Lake Hāwea, last week, police have confirmed.

A police spokesperson told the Wānaka App the body was located in the river on Wednesday (February 5).

“The death is not considered to be suspicious and has been referred to the coroner,” the spokesperson said.

Some media outlets have reported that the body was found on Te Araora Trail, which runs alongside part of the river.
