The seventh Festival of Sport and Recreation will return to Wanaka this October.
The festival is billed as a free and fun event where the community can come together to learn about all the sport and recreation opportunities in the Upper Clutha.
“After a break due to Covid-19 restrictions last year, we are so excited to be bringing back the festival bigger and better than ever,” Upper Clutha Sports Community trustee Bronwyn Coers said.
This year the festival will stretch over an entire weekend (October 15-17) and feature two motivational sports speaker evenings and a sports speaker breakfast; indoor ‘Have a Go’ sessions with a programme of opportunities to be active or entertained by a range of clubs and organisations; and interactive events including a ‘Dye Dash’ and a duathlon.
Activities this year will include a ‘Dye Dash’ and a duathlon.
There will also be an indoor display expo promoting community sporting clubs, associated businesses and local sporting celebrities.
“This family event is designed to inform, promote and celebrate the range of sport and recreational activities on offer to all ages over the summer season and beyond,” Bronwyn said.
The festival exists to bring people together to showcase and celebrate the sport and recreation opportunities in the Upper Clutha.
Organised by the Upper Clutha Sports Trust, the festival will take place at both the Wanaka Recreation Centre and the Lake Wānaka Centre.
Bronwyn thanked the sponsors, funders and volunteers who make the event possible, including this year’s naming sponsor Mitre 10 Mega.
