A local family business has earned recognition for excellence in flooring.

Wanaka Wood Floors earned two awards at the Australasian Timber Flooring Association (ATA) Awards, held last weekend in Australia.

Company owner Stephen Blackey said he was proud of the wins “in recognition of the craftsmanship and skill of our whole team, and the hard work put in by all”.

Its awards included Contractor of the Year - the pinnacle award of the evening - and the Recycled Floor of the Year award.

Recycled Floor of the Year was voted for by all members of ATFA, who chose Wānaka Wood Floors for their work on a recycled floor on a Wānaka property.

The timber was supplied, installed and finished on site by the company to reflect the character of the old building, made into a guesthouse, Stephen said.

The Contractor of the Year award was decided by a panel of industry experts, taking into account the aesthetics of finished jobs, skill and qualifications of staff and contractors, training by the company of staff and apprentices, and more.

ATFA president Clayton Villars said the company’s wins were “an excellent result for New Zealand”.

Wānaka Wood Floors has been in business in Wānaka for over 20 years, working with architects, builders, interior designers, and homeowners.

“We get to work on some very special projects and make ideas into beautiful unique floors,” Stephen said.
