Base Streetwear owner Chris Walsh said he’s “pretty stoked” to be celebrating 25 years in business in Wānaka.

Base is 25 years old today (December 24), as it started on Christmas Eve 1999 on the corner of Helwick and Dunmore Streets.

The store is now one of the oldest in Wānaka, Chris said, and “one of the longest standing streetwear stores in New Zealand”.

“We’re proud of this achievement,” he told the Wānaka App.

“We are very proud to have been a part of the Wānaka community for so many years and a destination store for many visitors.”

Chris said Base, which has a range of top labels including many New Zealand brands, has always tried to create a fun shopping environment for both customers and staff.

“We love what we do… we’re pretty stoked to have made it this far as a stand alone business in Wānaka.”

Chris shared his top tips to survive in retail: “Love what you do; Look after your team and customers; Have fun at work; and be consistent and the best you can be”.
