Art school offers ‘creative week’Students mastering book making at a previous year’s art school.

Registrations are now open for Wānaka’s popular Autumn Art School, which will take place in April (22-26).

The once-a-year art school gives people the opportunity to step away from their everyday lives for a week and deep dive into learning or fine-tuning a skill or interest, with help from experienced tutors.

The classes offered this year range from videography to watercolour portraits, to travel photography, contemporary painting and drama.

There’s also brush making, creative felting and pounamu carving, among others.

“There is a range of classes listed and we look forward to a creative week,” a statement from the Wānaka Autumn Art School said.

“This is a great opportunity to step off the world to learn new skills and create something unique.”

“Beginners and experienced students [are] welcome. There are many opportunities to meet new friends, socialise as well as learn about the different tutors.”

Classes often sell out quickly and potential students are encouraged to book quickly.

The Wānaka Autumn Art School is a non-profit event run by the Upper Clutha Community Arts Council.

Surplus funds provide scholarships for young and needy artists and the betterment of the arts in the Upper Clutha Community.
