Wanaka A&P Show organisers have announced they will make a “definitive decision” on whether or not to proceed with the show at 8pm on Tuesday (March 2).
Given the new Covid-19 alert level two decision, which came into effect yesterday and is expected to last for seven days, a decision on whether or not the show will proceed was expected today.
Instead, a statement was released today (Monday March 1).
“The Wanaka A & P Show team has been working tirelessly yesterday and today to investigate every possible option to run the 2021 Show as planned,” the statement said.
“We ask for your patience and support as we continue to work through these scenarios and will be able to provide you all with a definitive decision at 8pm on Tuesday.”
This follows an emergency meeting of the board and management team this morning to work through “all possible scenarios”.
However, tents began to be erected on Pembroke Park this afternoon, behind the show’s security fencing.
The show is scheduled to take place next week on March 12-13.
The government announced a change of alert levels on Saturday evening (February 27), with Auckland moving to level three and the rest of the country moving to alert level two for seven days. This followed new community cases of Covid-19 in Auckland.
The Wanaka A&P Show is one of New Zealand’s largest agricultural and pastoral events, attracting more than 40,000 people each year.
