WAI Wānaka is a community organisation dedicated to accelerating community action for fresh water.

We engage, educate and enable our community to propel us faster towards our vision for healthy ecosystems and community wellbeing for generations to come.

 

We are looking for a Community Activator/Educator to join our passionate team to deliver events, citizen science opportunities and engaging learning experiences to our community.

 

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

  • Deliver engaging events which enable our community to understand their impact on our water and act to protect it,
  • Deliver positive learning experiences to pre-schools and schools in the Upper Clutha region,
  • Deliver impactful citizen science opportunities for our community,
  • Volunteer co-ordination and event management,
  • Provide insight into new outreach and educational opportunities for our community.

He kōrero mōu: About you

  • Driven to make positive change to the environment through community action,
  • An amazing people person who is confident speaking in front of diverse groups of people including Tamariki,
  • An engaging storyteller who can inspire and motivate action,
  • Previous experience in the delivery and co-ordination of events with environmental conservation outcomes,
  • Previous educational and outreach experience is preferred,
  • A tertiary qualification in the environmental or scientific field is preferred,
  • Degree of flexibility with work schedule, including weekends, to attend meetings and deliver activities and events,
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the importance of treaty partnerships and relationships, with an awareness of Te Ao Māori, tikanga principles and Matauranga Māori desired.

 This position is a part time role for 3 days per week funded through to 30 June 2025.
