Do you want to make a difference in our community? Have you been asking yourself how you can contribute to local freshwater health?


WAI Wānaka is a community organisation dedicated to accelerating community action for fresh water. We engage and enable our community with tools and opportunities, to move us all faster towards our vision for healthy ecosystems and community wellbeing for generations to come. 



We are looking for an experienced Facilitator to support our Urban Action Groups and Rural Catchment Groups to achieve their environmental goals.


He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

  • Assist members of the urban and rural communities to connect and form groups that foster and deliver environmental goals.
  • Facilitate and support these groups with knowledge, frameworks, tools and connections to improve the health of freshwater and surrounding ecosystems.
  • Project manage the delivery of environmental initiatives for these groups.
  • Identify and progress funding opportunities for group initiatives.

He kōrero mōu: About you

  • Driven to make positive change to the environment through collective action,
  • Deep knowledge of urban and rural environmental issues and pressures on freshwater quality, and a technical understanding of best practice solutions,
  • An excellent communicator and amazing people person who can connect with all members of our community to inspire action,
  • Extremely organised with good time management skills, also very capable of juggling multiple priorities and deadlines,
  • Previous experience facilitating groups to achieve environmental outcomes is preferred,
  • Tertiary qualification in the environmental or scientific field, or 3 years+ facilitating collective action with facilitation qualifications, e.g. NZIPIM Facilitation Learning and Change
  • Degree of flexibility with work schedule, including evenings and weekends, to attend group meetings and deliver activities and events, 
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the importance of treaty partnerships and relationships, with an awareness of Te Ao Māori, tikanga principles and Matauranga Māori desired.

Ideally this position is full-time, but job share opportunities for a minimum of 3 days per week may also be available for the right candidates, or candidates who are specifically interested in only facilitating the urban or rural community.
