The Partnerships Manager is responsible for securing, managing, and maintaining relationships with sponsors, funding partners, and key stakeholders to ensure the financial sustainability of Challenge Wānaka.

The role includes securing corporate sponsorships, identifying grant and funding opportunities, negotiating agreements, and ensuring all partnership commitments are fulfilled.


This role works closely with the Event Director to secure funding through sponsorships and grants and with the Marketing Manager to maximize sponsor exposure and community engagement.


Additionally, the Partnerships Manager upholds the Challenge Wānaka and Challenge Family brands by aligning with partners that reflect the event’s values and vision.


Key skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in partnership management, sponsorship acquisition, and business development, preferably in the sports or events industry.
  • Strong grant writing and funding application experience.
  • Ability to identify and secure government, tourism, and private-sector funding opportunities.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills to secure and maintain long-term partnerships.
  • Understanding of marketing and brand alignment to maximize sponsor exposure.
  • Ability to create compelling sponsorship proposals and activation plans.
  • Budget management skills to maximize sponsorship revenue and deliver value to partners.
  • Experience in event management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

This role requires excellent communication, strategic thinking, and a proactive approach to securing and managing partnerships. It is a dynamic position that involves working closely with the Event Director, Marketing Manager, Operations Manager, and other key stakeholders.


Some weekend and after-hours work will be required, particularly in the lead-up to and during event week.


Hours will vary throughout the year from approximately 5 to 20 hours per week (more during event delivery).


Remuneration will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Potential commission available for new sponsorships acquired.
