Vessels to be removed from Wānaka Lakefront

Vessels to be removed from Wānaka Lakefront

Reminder regarding kayaks, dinghies and boats left along the Wānaka Lakefront!

Earlier this month we sent out a notification about an increasing number of kayaks, dinghies and boats being left along the Wānaka Lakefront from the Yacht Club around Eely Point to Bremner Bay.

Many of these are old, appear unused or are potentially abandoned. These vessels also block access for those enjoying our waterways and restrict QLDC's Parks Team and community groups from undertaking maintenance, pest plant removal, planting and general enhancement of lakeside spaces.

To ensure our lakefronts are able to be enjoyed by the whole community we ask that people please collect their kayaks, as we’re unable to identify what vessels are unused or abandoned.

A friendly reminder that the Parks Team will be removing the remaining vessels from Monday 6 October 2025.

Notices were placed on all vessels in the reserve. Letters were also delivered to local residents, and local clubs and mooring owners have been contacted.

Once vessels are removed from the reserve, they will be stored at a central location for a further two months. If unclaimed after this time, they will be disposed of by Council.

Following the holding period, vessels that are deemed to be in good condition will be sold to recover costs for the clean-up. Those interested in vessels can email [email protected] to express interest and then the team will be in touch should said vessel become available.
