A very popular track in the Wānaka area. The track has a steep gradient with a 1230m elevation gain, and a good level of fitness is required.
It presents breathtaking views of Lake Wānaka, Mount Aspiring and the surrounding peaks.
Please note:
- the track is closed for lambing from 1 October - 10 November.
- in winter, you need to carry, and be familiar with, alpine equipment such as ice axe and crampons. Avalanche awareness is recommended.
- the track is on a private working farm, no dogs and please respect livestock and remain on the track.
- the track gets incredibly busy during the summer months. Consider walking to the car park and ensure you're well prepared as the track gets high sun exposure and little to no shaded areas.
- toilets at the bottom and top of the track.
- mobile phone reception is good.
- take food, plenty of water, windproof jacket, sunscreen, closed shoes, head torch, and a communication device.
