Our native wildlife needs our support. Predators such as rats, stoats, hedgehogs, and possums are putting immense pressure on our unique ecosystems, affecting native birds as well as skinks and geckos.

These species are an integral part of our natural heritage, found nowhere else in the world.

Around 35 native species in our region are currently threatened with extinction.

With proactive efforts, we can protect these precious taonga (treasures) and ensure their survival for generations to come.

Predator Free Wānaka is a community-led group started to encourage more locals to trap pest species on their properties, and to set up and manage trap lines around Wānaka, Hāwea, Hāwea Flat, Albert Town, Luggate and Queensberry.
