Makarora School is situated at the head of Lake Wanaka in the Makarora Valley, adjacent to Mount Aspiring National Park.

The school and adjoining community centre share facilities and grounds.

The school also runs the Dave Osmers Makarora Community Library, which is attached to the school and runs through the QLDC public library system. At the beginning of Term 1, 2024 there were 10 Y1-6 children from 8 families attending the school.

The school employs 1 Teaching Principal, 1 part-time Teacher and 1 part-time Teacher’s Aide.
