Lyal Cocks is standing for the Wānaka-Upper Clutha Ward in the 2025 Local Body Elections.

Statement

I have lived in Wanaka for 27 years and during that time have owned accommodation and restaurant businesses, provided driver training, and served this district as a Community Board member, Councillor and Deputy Mayor.

My years of local government experience mean I know how the Council and Community Board should function to the benefit of Upper Clutha ratepayers and residents. I will continue to use this knowledge and experience to provide effective and positive representation for all communities and aim to reduce the burden on ratepayers by establishing alternate funding initiatives to get necessary work done.

I am known for my work ethic and integrity and regularly attend AGMs of the multitude of community groups and organisations in our area to provide support whenever possible. I will continue to be part of ensuring decisions on local issues are made with local input by elected members who can be held accountable.
