1 hour, easy walk - this track is closed.

Due to safety issues with bridges on the track the track is closed. It is anticipated that the bridges will be repaired in summer 23/24 with no date for the reopening at this stage.

Nestled among mature beech and podocarp forest, these pools of deep, clear glacial water flowing into the Makarora River offer a moment of tranquillity. This is one of the best short walks. From the car park it is a short walk through the mature beech forest that then opens up to a swing bridge, which is a viewing platform over the blue pools. On the other side of the bridge the track continues down to the river edge providing great views up the river gorge.

Suitable for most fitness levels, the track has a very flat gradient and is a short 3 km return track.

From Wānaka, the car park is located north on the Haast Highway (SH6) from Makarora township. Continue past for another 15 minutes, the car park is at Cameron's Flat. The only toilet is located at this car park.

Be sure to take sandfly repellent and food as this is a perfect picnic spot. Closed shoes recommended.
