The Minister of Conservation is inviting expressions of interest from people who want to be considered for appointment to the Guardians of Lake Wānaka. Expressions of interest are open until the 8th of January 2026.

Are you an expert in lakes and freshwater or a related field and based in the greater Lake Wānaka/Otago area? Or are you passionate protecting freshwater environments and have experience on a board or committee?

The Minister of Conservation is inviting expressions of interest from people who want to be considered for appointment to the Guardians of Lake Wānaka.

The Guardians want to grow their capacity as a board and ensure the protection of Lake Wānaka as required by the Lake Wanaka Preservation Act 1973.

This means adapting to new digital tools for resource management and data analysis. Most importantly, Guardians need to confidently represent the lake and its environment.
