Waitangi Day is coming up on February 6 and it's another fun day in Hāwea with the Town v Country Competition

Town wears blue and is bordered by Muir Rd, Cemetery Rd, Domain Rd and the Lake foreshore.

Country wears red and is all those who live outside the town zone and includes the whole of the Hawea School area in including Luggate if they wish to take part.

Negotiations are underway to have several sports being played during the day:  Netball, Cricket, Tennis, Pétanque, Bowls and Golf.

If you would like to include another sport, we would love to have it. Ideally you need a town team organiser, a country team organiser, the necessary support eg an umpire or referee, and the relevant equipment.

At 3pm there is a Kid’s Corner for the under 8’s at Peter Fraser Park and you just turn up. This involves races and fun activities and ends with a junior lolly scramble.

At 4pm there is a gathering in Peter Fraser Park for the Top Town Competition with relays and Tugs of War.

The Slippery slides will be up for the kids and the Lions Food Truck and Sweet Spot Truck will be selling their goodies.

The day will end with the famous aerial lolly scramble.
